On behalf of the staff and management at Canterbury Park I’d like to welcome you to what promises to be the best season of racing in the history of our racetrack. We’re proud of what we have to offer horsemen and for those of you that have been with us before – we look forward to seeing you again. If you are new and participating in our racing program for the first time – it is truly our pleasure to have you with us.

In June 2012 we signed a historic 10-year, $75 million purse enhancement agreement with the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community. Here are some of the recent highlights of this agreement:

» In 2015 we paid record purses that averaged over $200,000 daily for the first time in Minnesota racing history.

» Total handle has soared. Since 2012, Canterbury Park handle is up nearly 50%. We anticipate additional handle growth in 2016 when we begin broadcasting our races in High Definition.

» Our on-track attendance is one of the strongest, youngest and most enthusiastic in the country.  In 2015 we averaged 6,695 people per day and we have several new promotions that we plan to roll out in 2016 that are “first-in-the-industry” to further increase these numbers.

» In the fall of 2015, Canterbury Park under the guidance of Dr. Mick Peterson, Executive Director of the Racing Surfaces Testing Laboratory, and the hard work of Track Superintendent George Moncrief embarked on a planned renovation of Canterbury’s main track. After the removal of the cushion across the inside 30 feet of the racetrack, the base was fully examined and damaged areas were patched and rolled with a new layer of limestone. Subsequently, the track was leveled and graded and the cushion mixed and reset at the proper grade prior to winterization. During the course of the project, original drawings and measurements were used in an attempt to bring the surface as close as possible to its original specifications.

» Our racing staff has grown and changed since 2015. Andrew Offerman has been promoted to Canterbury Park’s Director of Racing and we’ve added Robbie Junk as our new Racing Secretary. Both Andrew and Robbie are highly respected around the country and share the same vision which is improving our racing every season.

Our new condition book is structured to offer a wide selection of races for open horses as well as Minnesota-breds and has been designed with your input in mind. It’s our goal to make your experience at Canterbury Park as enjoyable and profitable as possible. Let me know how we can help you. We’re looking forward to a fantastic meet and believe that your participation is a key to our success. Thanks for all you do for racing at Canterbury Park!
