Jockey Larren Delorme, who once rode at Canterbury on a regular basis, won his 1,000th race Saturday evening when Ride Lady Ride raced to victory in the 2nd race at Prairie Meadows.
Trainer Robertino Diodoro, top trainer here in 2014 and 2015 and the current leader, is approaching his 2,000th career victory, with just 25 wins to go to reach the milestone. He currently has horses racing here, in Iowa, Louisiana, and on the East Coast where he won the first race of the meet at Saratoga on Friday.
“I’d like to get the win here,” Diodoro said earlier in the week, prior to departing for Saratoga. “I wanted to get my 1,000th in Phoenix [at Turf Paradise] and I did. I want to get 2,000 at Canterbury.”
Racing resumes Thursday at Canterbury. Diodoro has six horses entered on the 10-race program that begins with a 6:30 p.m. first post.
