The 2018 Canterbury Park Horse of the Meet, Mr. Jagermeister, recorded a bullet four furlong work this morning at Oaklawn Park and has been entered to race on Thursday at the Hot Springs, Arkansas racetrack.
“He looked awesome,” trainer Valorie Lund said. “He just floated over the track. When he got back he couldn’t have blown out a match.”
Thursday’s six furlong race, the eighth on the card, offers a $92,000 purse and attracted a field of seven with the 4-year-old Minnesota bred drawing post three. Leandro Goncalves will be there to ride.
In his last out, March 19 at Turf Paradise, Mr. Jagermeister went to the post at 4 to 5 and uncharacteristically faded from first to a nonthreatening third. Lund scoped the horse and found mucus.
Today’s workout indicates he is back on his game. “He is on target and ready to go,” Lund said.
Lund took five other horses with her to Oaklawn as well and will make her way to Shakopee to meet up with the rest of her stable soon. “I have a full van loading today in Phoenix.”
Opening day at Canterbury Park is Friday, May 3.
