Jim Wells 1946-2019

Our friend and our storyteller Jim Wells passed away Sunday. His contributions to this blog were memorable and numerous and now irreplaceable. He made CanterburyLive during the summer racing season a must read.

Jim’s horse racing coverage for the St. Paul Pioneer Press, beginning in the Downs’ days of the mid 80s through the early Park years earned him a place in the Canterbury Hall of Fame. When he left the newspaper, he began writing for Canterbury’s blog, a task that he loved. With loose deadlines and the ability to explore and write about whatever he found interesting, as well as an editor that would never cut his stories, Jim thrived and the readers were the winners.

Jim was so much more than a horse racing reporter. His family and his friends from many walks of life will gather Sunday, November 3 in the Triple Crown Club at Canterbury Park to share stories and memories. The memorial takes place from 1 to 5pm with a program beginning at 2:30. All are invited to attend.
