Packer Puts On Miles

Quarter horse jockey Berkley Packer rode the first two races at Prairie Meadows Monday afternoon. He won the first race aboard The Polar Vortex for trainer Jason Olmstead and dismounted Hes Reckless at 4:30 after a seventh place finish. Packer and Olmstead immediately headed north from Altoona, Iowa to Shakopee and Canterbury Park 237 miles away, arriving before the eighth race with plenty of time to spare before the evening’s lone quarter horse race, the tenth, that had a 9:10 post time. The result of that race was not what either had hoped, Packer’s mount Coronado Crown, finished seventh but proved, as Olmstead said, that they “can race at both places on a Monday.”

Live racing continues this week Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with a 4:40 p.m. first post.
