Canterbury Park will celebrate the great state of Minnesota Saturday, August 10 with Made in Minnesota Day. The celebratory day will consist of onsite Made in Minnesota vendors and MN Beerfest with local beers and ciders, as well as the chance to pick up a copy of the book Minnesota Made Me written by Patrick Borzi. A race card filled with stakes for horses bred in the state begins at 5pm.
Minnesota Made Me gives readers an inside look at many athletes, coaches, broadcasters, and executives behind Minnesota sports. The book tells the stories of 38 unique individuals, including Larry Fitzgerald Jr., Lindsay Whalen, and Adam Thielen. Minnesota Made Me will not only educate, but will inspire readers of all ages.
“In a real stroke of luck, four athletes I interviewed before they left for the 2018 Olympics — cross country skier Jessie Diggins, curling skip John Shuster, and women’s hockey players Maddie Rooney and Gigi Marvin — came home with gold medals,” said Borzi.
Patrick Borzi, who was born and raised in Long Island, NY, is a career newspaper writer who worked in Miami, Boston and New York before coming to Minnesota in 2002 to marry Rachel Blount of the Star Tribune. Borzi has covered nine World Series, three Super Bowls, two Olympic Games, and the careers of more than a dozen Hall of Famers.
Currently, Borzi is a contributing writer for The New York Times, espnW.com and MinnPost.com. He would like to write another book, perhaps a Minnesota Made Me Volume II, but has no plans set in stone yet.
Borzi will be on hand at Made in MN Day along with other vendors on track level throughout the evening.
There will be five thoroughbred stakes: Blair’s Cove, Princess Elaine, MTA Sales Graduate, Minnesota Oaks, and Minnesota Derby. A staple on the quarter horse stakes schedule will also be held, the Cash Caravan Stakes , as well as a race new to the schedule, the Cam Casby Futurity.
