The next step to the Kentucky Derby is The Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park on Saturday. Canterbury Park’s annual Road to Kentucky Contest will feature the entire 12-race program from the Hot Springs, Arkansas racetrack. First post, and thus the contest entry deadline, is noon central.
Entrants to this free contest select one horse in each contest race and receive points based on the mutuel prices. Those accumulating the most points overall win cash. The top five best scores are rewarded. The Rebel is a double-point Derby prep race.
Do You Believe?
Think your Road to Kentucky score will be competitive? Then back it up in the Bet On Yourself in R2K Contest each week. Bet On Yourself in R2K is a series of single-day contests held each Saturday of Road to Kentucky where you submit a $10 entry fee and compete for a prize pool consisting of all entry fees collected on the day of each contest with the winner being determined by the highest score recorded by an entrant in that day’s Road to Kentucky Handicapping Contest .
Of the players entered each date, the entire pool of entry fees collected that day will be paid as the prize pool to the entrant with the highest score. The winner also receives one 2023 Handicapper of the Year point.
Congrats to Week 5 winner of Richard Eskola who won $200 in prize money for finishing first in the fifth week. Had he entered Bet On Yourself in R2K he would have won an additional $410. Instead, Fernando Montanez swept the Bet On Yourself pool with the sixth best R2K score of the week. Five others passed on a chance to capitalize on their opinion. Here are the rules.

Extreme Horse Skijoring – This Saturday!
Now in its 5th season. Horse racing in the snow, with a twist, is back at Canterbury Park. A horse, most often a quarter horse, and a rider in a stock saddle, run down the stretch pulling a skier through a demanding course complete with gates and jumps as they compete against the clock and another team to qualify for the finals. More than 100 teams, with competitors from around the country, have registered for Saturday’s event.
A popular freestyle show is also featured prominently. Skiers and snowboarders, again pulled by a horse, launch off a 15-foot snow ramp across a 20-foot gap performing tricks and flips. Cowgirls, cowboys, punks, speed geeks, and weekend thrill seekers will compete for cash, glory and prizes with a forecast in the 30s and sunshine making the outdoor stadium seating a perfect vantage point to take in the action.
